"Before the New Year" is a solo comedy starring Brazilian actress Mariana Xavier, originally from Rio de Janeiro. The action takes place on New Year's Eve, in a support center where an employee answers calls from people in full emotional crisis. Alone on stage, Mariana Xavier gives voice to a series of characters, sometimes entertaining, sometimes moving, who emerge from the other end of the line amid outpourings, crises and unexpected situations. The text is by Gustavo Pinheiro and the staging is by Ana Paula Bouzas and Lázaro Ramos. The show uses humor to address new beginnings, frustrations, mental health, loneliness, empathy and the search for happiness. It is part of a tour through several Portuguese cities and is recommended for those who enjoy comedy with a human and emotional depth.
