Barananu
About
Barananu is a Porto-based sextet that blends jazz, disco and progressive rock in a collective approach to improvisation. The lineup brings together Eduardo Carneiro Dias (drums), Xavier Nunes (electric bass), João Pedro Dias (trumpet), Fábio Gil (saxophone), José Pedrosa (keyboards) and Fábio Mota (percussion). Last year they released their debut album, FUNGHI, on Jazzego Records, and their influences range from local projects such as Sensible Soccers and Bardino to BadBadNotGood, Boards of Canada and Kamasi Washington. At GrETUA, the concert serves as a starting point for a jam session. The direction of the evening will first be set by the band, which will remain on stage as long as there is enthusiasm and energy. Afterwards, the stage opens to the audience and to any musicians who wish to join in. Admission is free and doors open half an hour before the concert. The event is a co-production by GrETUA, AAUAv and NEMu-AAUAv.
