The Swamp is the debut film by Argentine director Lucrecia Martel and closes the Ibero-American Film Cycle at Cineteatro Alba, which throughout 2026 brought together works from Portugal, Spain, Brazil and Argentina. The action takes place in the city of La Ciénaga and its surroundings, in northeast Argentina, the territory that marked the beginning of Martel's filmography. We follow the lives of two middle-class families on the brink of collapse, a ruin suggested by the surrounding nature. The screening begins with an introduction and ends with a debate after the projection, led by Vítor Ribeiro, programmer at Close up – Cinema Observatory, director of Cineclube de Joane and film critic. The cycle is part of the programming of RTCP – Network of Portuguese Theatres and Cinetheatres.
