Dia Aberto no Museu Marítimo de Ílhavo
About
The Museu Marítimo de Ílhavo opens its doors to the public free of charge on the second Sunday of each month. The visit covers the five permanent exhibitions in the main building, which showcase the relationship of local communities with the sea and the identity of the municipality. On the lower floor are the Sala da Faina, dedicated to cod fishing with hand lines using dóris, and the Sala da Ria, about the traditional seafaring activities of the Ria de Aveiro. On the upper floor are the Sala das Conchas e Algas, with collections of aesthetic and biological value, the Sala dos Mares, about Portuguese oceanic expansion and naval heritage, and the Sala das Artes, which brings together artistic interpretations of the sea and sailors. The tour ends at the Aquário dos Bacalhaus, dedicated to Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), a species that the Portuguese have fished and consumed for centuries. It is a good opportunity to discover the museum at no cost, with family or alone.
