Variações Goldberg (Festivais de Outono)
Part of Festivais de Outono da Universidade de Aveiro 2026 (22.ª edição)
About
Ensemble Mediterrain presents Bach's Goldberg Variations in a version for string trio (violin, viola and cello), the transcription by Dimitri Sitkovetsky. Between the variations, readings from the poem "Bach: Goldberg Variations" by Jorge de Sena are heard, included in the book Arte de Música, in a dialogue between music and poetry. The work has an origin told in legend: it is said to have been written for Count von Keyserlingk, who wanted serene yet lively and cheerful music for his sleepless nights. The harpsichordist Johann Gottlieb Goldberg, in the service of the count, is said to have been the first performer, in 1741. It remains one of the most beloved pieces in the history of music and has inspired creators from other artistic fields. The opening of the concert is entrusted to the Kintsugi project, with students from the Artistic School of the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music in Aveiro. The performance is part of the Autumn Festivals of the University of Aveiro, which this year has the theme "Música +". It is recommended for ages 6 and up.
