About
"The Bell and the Whistle: experiences of faith and work at Lugar da Vista Alegre" is a temporary exhibition at Museu Vista Alegre, in Ílhavo. It looks at Lugar da Vista Alegre through the lens of community life, where religious devotion and work in the porcelain factory marked the daily lives of those who lived there. The title combines two sounds that organized life in the place: the bell, linked to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Penha de França, a National Monument, and the whistle, linked to the factory's rhythm. The exhibition connects to the tradition of the Vista Alegre Festival, which celebrates the patroness and the community's identity every year. The exhibition opens on 3 July at 7 p.m. and remains on display until the end of the year. It appeals to those who want to know the social history of Vista Alegre beyond porcelain: the workers' neighbourhood, the chapel and the people who worked and prayed there. It can be visited as a family outing, as a complement to a museum visit.
