The Feira dos 13 is an open-air popular market held at the grounds next to the Vista Alegre factory in Ílhavo. It functions as a typical market where all sorts of things are sold, and attracts large crowds, especially around lunchtime, when many people sit down to eat at the grilled chicken stalls and similar establishments. Its origins are ancient: in 1693, at the request of the Chambers of the Vila da Ermida and Vila de Ílhavo, King Pedro II authorized by royal decree the establishment of a fair at Vista Alegre. Over time, the place came to receive travelers, merchants, industrialists and farmers, and the fair became very useful for the region's inhabitants. The name comes from the day it takes place, the 13th of each month. It is a good opportunity to walk among the stalls, look for what is needed and discover a tradition with over three centuries of history. The event is organized by the Parish Board of S. Salvador.
