The Feira dos 13 is an open-air popular market held in the fairground at Vista Alegre, in Ílhavo. It functions as a typical market, where a bit of everything is sold, and maintains the vitality and large public attendance that have characterized it for centuries. Its origins date back to a royal decree of 1693, in which D. Pedro II authorized the establishment of a fair at Vista Alegre, at the request of the councils of Vila da Ermida (now part of the municipality of Ílhavo) and Vila de Ílhavo. Over time, the place began to receive travellers, devotees, foreigners, merchants, industrialists and farmers, and the fair became very useful for the inhabitants of the region. It is a good opportunity to stroll between the stalls, discover varied products and experience a local tradition with over three centuries of history. The event is organized by the Junta de Freguesia de S. Salvador and the fair runs between 07:00 and 14:00.
