Magusto de São Martinho

The Magusto of Saint Martin is an autumn gathering in Torreira, in the municipality of Murtosa, organised to raise funds for the Feast in Honour of Our Lady of Peace. The evening begins at 19:00 and extends until around 23:00. The magusto is a Portuguese tradition that brings people together around the fire, with roasted chestnuts, conversation and, in many places, new wine, água-pé or jeropiga. It is celebrated around the day of Saint Martin, on 11 November, and marks the entry into winter. It is an occasion for those who want to experience a popular tradition in a community setting and, at the same time, support the religious and popular feast of Torreira.
