"O Barbeiro de Sevilha" (Rossini)
About
The Barber of Seville is a comic opera in two acts by Gioachino Rossini, with libretto by Cesare Sterbini based on the comedy by Beaumarchais. It premiered in Rome in 1816 and remains one of the most performed works in the Italian opera buffa repertoire. In Seville, Count Almaviva wants to win over Rosina, a clever young woman kept under the strict vigilance of her tutor, Dr. Bartolo. He relies on Fígaro, the ingenious barber of the city, and on a succession of disguises, misunderstandings and elaborate schemes. The score brings together famous arias and vocal ensembles of great demands, always with lively rhythm and humour. The cast includes Mónica Redondo and Paola Leguizarmendi (Rosina), Jorge Tello and Vicente Antequera (Fígaro), Quintín Bueno and Víctor Jiménez (Count Almaviva) and David Cervera (Bartolo). The show has a 15-minute interval and is recommended for ages 16 and over.
