Ópera "Turandot"
About
Turandot, Giacomo Puccini's last opera, takes to the stage of the Grande Auditório do Europarque in a production by the Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa, part of FIMUV. The production is directed by German filmmaker Daniela Kerck, in an original production from the Hessisches Staatstheater de Wiesbaden, which premiered in 2024. The story is set in legendary China. Princess Turandot will only marry the suitor who can solve three riddles; whoever fails loses their head. Prince Calaf, exiled and having just reunited with his blind and dethroned father, accompanied by the slave Liù, sees Turandot and decides to take the risk. Puccini writes a score of great harmonic boldness, with oriental colours, pentatonic scale and a rhythm reminiscent of an adventure soundtrack. The cast is headed by Russian soprano Olesya Golovneva, in the demanding title role, and tenor Ermin Ašćerić, as Calaf. They are joined by Aida Pascu (Liù), Nuno Dias (Timur), Tiago Amado Gomes, Bruno Almeida and Alberto Sousa (Ping, Pang and Pong) and Luís Caetano (Emperor Altoum). The opera is sung in Italian.
