The Museum of Hatmaking invites those who lived through or know the history of São João da Madeira to share memories, life stories, photographs and documents. The oral history collection seeks to gather testimonies from hatmakers and other residents of São João da Madeira who were monitored or detained by the political police during the Estado Novo. The project is conducted by researcher Inês Resende and continues the work initiated with the temporary exhibition "O Movimento Operário Chapeleiro", on display in the Social Uses Room of the museum. The collected and processed material will result, in April 2027, in the exhibition "PIDE: das Fichas às Vidas". This exhibition aims to tell the city's story in the present, through the voices of the residents themselves. Anyone who has a memory or family document to contribute helps preserve it for future generations.
