Santo António - o casamenteiro de Lisboa
About
Portuguese comedy directed by Ruben Alves, the Luso-French filmmaker behind "The Golden Cage" and "Miss France". The film is based on the Casamentos de Santo António, the Lisbon tradition that unites couples in the capital every year, and is filmed entirely in Portugal with Portuguese actors. Rita Blanco and Joaquim Monchique play Carmo and Valentim, employees of the Lisbon City Council responsible for organizing the event. The ceremony has seen better days and the duo must reinvent it, or risk losing their jobs, with a French multinational circling the business. The cast also includes Joaquim de Almeida, Isabel Abreu, Rui Mendes, Lídia Franco and João Catarré. Along the way, various couples cross paths, each with their own way of experiencing love, and the film also looks at the solitude of the wedding organizers themselves and at a Lisbon where traditions resist tourism. It is a session for those who enjoy neighborhood comedy and recent Portuguese cinema.
