Songs of Ascension

Songs of Ascension is a dance piece created and directed by Iris Auguste, performed by Beatriz Moreira, Giulia Micelli and Iris Auguste herself. It stems from a question about female bodily freedom and proposes a sensory journey in which the performers explore a spontaneous relationship with objects, sounds and other bodies. The performance is conducted with eyes closed, as a way to move away from the violence of unattainable beauty ideals, from representations and preconceived modes associated with femininity. The piece features lighting design by Guilherme Mota and sound design by Antoine Bouhier, and is a coproduction of Instável — Centro Coreográfico and Teatro Municipal do Porto. It is presented in the Studio Room of Teatro Aveirense, within the Palcos Instáveis cycle, and is recommended for ages 12 and up. Around the performance, the dance workshop Entre Corpo, Voz, Memória takes place, open to those with no previous experience.
